How many hours did users spend on their phones worldwide in 2024?

The 2025 Mobile State Report has revealed fascinating insights into mobile phone usage in the United States during 2024. The report indicates that while the mobile market remains the most mature, the growth in time spent by users on their devices has slowed. However, revenues have continued to rise, particularly in non-gaming sectors.

Global Mobile Usage Trends
Worldwide, users spent a total of 4.2 trillion hours interacting with their mobile screens in 2024. This equates to more than 500 hours per person throughout the year, or over 13 minutes for every waking hour.

In the United States, total time spent on mobile devices reached 323 billion hours in 2024, showing a slight decline from 325 billion hours in 2023.

Revenue Growth in Mobile Purchases
Despite this slight dip in screen time, in-app purchases (IAP) and subscriptions saw a notable increase of 13% compared to the previous year, reaching a global total of $150 billion in 2024.

Mobile Spending on the Rise
Consumer spending on mobile devices grew significantly in North America and Europe, with the United States leading the way. U.S. consumers spent $52 billion on mobile purchases in 2024. This surge is attributed to the increasing comfort people have in making purchases through their smartphones, driven by the extended time spent on their devices.
